Join CARD’s Youth Leadership Program to be a Jr. Naturalist at Camp Chico Creek!

Our Youth Leadership Program entails a parent meeting, interview, training, and a minimum commitment of two weeks during the summer.  All Summer 2017 Jr. Naturalists have been interviewed and scheduled.

Program Overview: The Chico Creek Nature Center, located in the heart of Bidwell Park, presents nature education day camps for children ages 5 to 11. The program is designed to provide outdoor recreation and to foster awareness of nature in a fun, safe, and caring setting. Campers enjoy hands-on natural science labs, up close animal visits, outdoor games, arts and crafts, and swimming in Big Chico Creek.

Camp Shirts:      Campers are required to wear their camp shirt every day of camp. Shirts are $10 and will be distributed to campers on their first day. Size is determined at that time. Shirts are the same each year so you may wear last years. Some families choose to buy multiple shirts so they are prepared for many days of summer camp fun.

Camp Lunch:      Sadly we are not longer served by Chico Unified’s summer meal program.  Campers should come with a large lunch and several snacks.  Families that qualify for free lunch may still be provided with a lunch that includes a peanut butter and grape jelly sandwich, a cheese stick, a chewy granola bar and a piece of fruit.  If you are in need of our limited free lunch program please look for an e-mail each week with a link to sign up for the program.  A separate application must be filled out each week and proof of qualification will be required.  We are sorry for any inconvenience.

Bring/Wear:       To ensure a GREAT experience campers should bring or wear the following:

Large Packed Snacks Campers get very hungry throughout the day.
Closed Toe Shoes No sandals, flip flops, etc.
Closed Toe Water Shoes Campers will not be allowed in the water without these. They may be a second pair of sneakers but may not be flip flops or any type of sandal with exposed toes.
Layered Clothing The temperature can change a lot throughout the day.
Sunscreen Please send your child with sunscreen and apply sunscreen before they arrive at camp. Counselors will remind them to re-apply as needed throughout the day.
Bug Repellent Counselors will remind them to apply if needed.
Water Bottle Extra Outfit at needed
Swim Suit We recommend items come in a backpack for safe keeping. Campers will have use of cubbies to store their items. Please label all items brought to camp.
Towel
Extra Outfit at needed
Hat/Sunglasses

Swimming/Sunscreen:  We swim every day of camp. Please make sure campers always have the necessary supplies. Counselors will remind campers to reapply sunscreen as needed. Counselors will oversee the application and, if needed, a fellow camper may help with the application. Counselors will not assist with the application of sunscreen.

Sign In/Out: For the safety of your children we ask they you sign them in and out every day. Please be prepared to show a photo ID at pick up. Only named parents and authorized pick ups will be allowed to pick up. If you need to have someone else pick up please revise your registration online or contact us. Please pick up at your scheduled time. We charge $10 for the first 10 minutes late and $2 per minute after that.
