Earlier this morning, Chico Fire Dispatch received a report of a tree on fire near Bear Hole in Upper Bidwell Park. The caller stated the fire was within the Stoney Fire burn scar.

Division 1 and Squad 1 responded Bear Hole and Shadowtree Lane. Division 1 was able to visually locate the tree, which was burning within the burn scar. The tree was approximately 3,000' from the fire perimeter and posed no threat to the community.

Fire crews will continue to monitor the situation and ensure the community is safe.

The weather is perfect for a trip to Bidwell Park. As more and more community members visit the park, the chance of accidents increases.

Here are a few safety tips to keep in mind:

1. Use caution on the rocks. Many injuries occur from falls as hikers and swimmers traverse the steep rocks of Monkey Face and Bear Hole.

2. Know where you are and carry a cell phone. Providing an accurate location will help first responders find you in case of an emergency.

3. The City of Chico Fire Department has highly trained rescue technicians with decades of experience working in Bidwell Park.

Have a safe summer! #ChicoFD #BidwellPark #UpperPark #Rescue

As always but especially now because of potential hazards due to the fire, please stay on designated trails. The Stoney Fire is 100% contained.

Firefighters have worked hard over the last ten days to bring the fire to full containment.

Here is what we need you to know:

- Small pockets of smoke may still be visible well within the fire perimeter. This is normal.

- Please only call 9-1-1 if you see flames or the fire is burning outside the established perimeter.

- Although the fire is 100% contained, there are still many potential hazards (ie smoldering root systems, tree limbs, etc) inside the burn scar. We strongly advise staying away from the fire perimeter.

Thank you for your patience and support during this incident. We are proud to serve the Chico Community. #ChicoFD #ChicoProud #StoneyFire #Wildfire
